The Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ that the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrated on May 14 is usually accompanied by the “Jan-Gyulum” national feast. This year the “Jan-Gyulum” was celebrated on May 17, 2015 in Calouste Gulbenkian Hall of the Hayartun Center. One of the teachers from the Saint Movses Khorenatsi Preschool, Oksana Sharoyan, participated in the preparation. Thanks to her efforts the feast preserved its traditional specificities.

From the morning Young Armenians in national clothing – Taraz were making wreaths from flowers and giving them to girls, brides and others.

After reading the Lord’s Prayer and receiving the blessings from the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, the celebration started with the song “Hampartzum Yayla”. The host of the event, Liza Torosyan, congratulated the people present on the occasion of the feast and refered to Our Lord Jesus Christ’s Ascension and Jan-Gyulum Feast, which is also a feast of flowers and spring. The Saint Nerses Shnorhali Youth Choir (Choirmaster – Maria Abulyan and Pianist – Karen Mirzoyan), the “Ani” and “Taron” dance ensembles (Teacher – Angelina Nazaryan-Kocharyan) and the “Vank” dance ensemble (Teacher – Liana Kashavanidze) performed at the event together with the solo performers of national and modern songs Ani Hovhannisyan, Marianna Sahakyan, Ruzanna Mikaeliants, Anna Poghosova, Aida Bazoyan, Ani Torosyan, Henrikh Petrosyan and duduk and dhol classes’ students (Teachers – Robert Kashavanidze and Ivane Mkrtchyan). The audience was also impressed by the performance of the newly established dance ensemble (Techer –Liana Kashavanidze) from Karmir village, Marneuli region.

The children from the Saint Movses Khorenatsi Preschool like “living flowers” beautified the event with their dances and recitation.

The feast celebrated in the Hayartun Center was a further evidence of preservation of the national traditions.
