The Median Day of the Great Lent (Mijink) Was Marked in Tbilisi |
On March 2, 2016, according to the calendar of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, the Great Lent divided. The 24th day of Great Lent is called Mijink. Accompanying the religious holidays folk traditions bring new vitality to the faithful, hence a festive mood prevailed in the Armenian Churches of Tbilisi. Holiday preparations had been made by the clergymen in the Cathedral of St. George and the Saint Etchmiadzin Church in Avlabari. The Armenian churches located in the different parts of Tbilisi were crowded. Schoolchildren, teachers, parents and many faithful attended the traditional celebration of national holiday. The members of the Taron Dance Group of the Hayartun Center at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia (Choreographer Suren Abramyan), the Ani Dance Ensemble (Choreographer Angelina Nazarian-Kochian) and the Vanq Dance Ensemble (Choreographer Liana Kashavanidze), partly in the Cathedral of St. George and partly in the Saint Etchmiadzin Church, placed baskets of tasty unleavened cake on the tables, prepared warmly by the members of the Association of Armenian Women in Georgia "Shushanik", Larisa and Amalya Harutyunyan, and Toma Akhijanyan, with the help of the churches’ godfathers, Yuri Yeremyan and Karen Sargsyan. Following the Evening Service, the clergy conducted the blessing of the traditional pastry in two churches. The Pastors, Rev. Father Samvel Torosyan and Rev. Father Narek Ghushyan congratulated the faithful on Mijink, symbolizing that the first half of the period of Great Lent has already passed, wishing them strength and endurance to spend the days of Lent filled with love and faith. Girls dressed in folk costumes distributed the blessed tasty traditional pastry to the faithful in two churches.
