According to the calendar of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church, on the 7th of July, Vardavar - Feast of Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ was celebrated. The faithful of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, at the initiative of the spiritual shepherd of Surb Etchmiadzin Church in Tbilisi Priest Samvel Torosyan, marked this day with a pilgrimage to Surb Hovhannes Chapel in Mets Parni village (Galtakhchi). Early in the morning on the 7th of July, at Surb Etchmiadzin Church in Tbilisi, after receiving the blessings from the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan and praying for the success of the pilgrimage, a group of believers – 22 pilgrims, led by the sacristan of the church Deacon Otari Gigauri, went to Surb Hovhannes Chapel in Mets Parni village (Galtakhchi) of Spitak region. The pilgrims accompanied by the local Abegha went on foot up the hill leading to the chapel. In Surb Hovhannes Chapel the pilgrims under the leadership of Abegha took communion, prayed, lit candles and ended their pilgrimage with Our Father Prayer. On the same day the group of pilgrims returned to Tbilisi. |
