The Feast of the Nativity and Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ was celebrated at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia PDF Print E-mail

On January 6 from the early morning festive mood prevailed at Surb Etchmiadzin Church in Tbilisi. On the occasion of the Feast of the Holy Nativity and Theophany of our Lord Jesus Christ the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at Surb Etchmiadzin Church. The Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan conducted the divine service.

Advisor to the President of Georgia Van Baiburtian, Georgian MP Ruslan Poghosian, the former Mayor of Tbilisi Gigi Ugulava, the Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Paata Zakareishvili, Minister of Penitentiary, Probation and Legal Assistance of Georgia Sozar Subari, members of the Tbilisi Sakrebulo Nikoloz Bachilava, Zaal Samadashvili, Isani Gamgebeli Tornike Khutsishvili, Board Chairman of the Media Development Fund Tamar Kintsurashvili, Deputy Ambassador of RA to Georgia Vahagn Afyan, and other diplomats of the embassy, the members of the Board of Trustees, and other government officials visited Surb Etchmiadzin Church in Avlabari to attend the Divine Liturgy on the occasion of the Feast of the Holy Nativity.

During the Divine Liturgy the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgian read the Message of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians On the Feast of the Holy Nativity and Theophany of our Lord Jesus Christ. The tidings of the Holy Nativity and Theopathy of our Lord Jesus Christ filled the church.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy under the leadership of the Head of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan the ceremony of the Jurorhnek, or the "Blessing of Water" was held; the committed Christian and devoted son of the nation Yuri Yeremyan became the "godfather of the cross".

At the end of the Liturgy the Head of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan expressed his gratitude to the Georgian government officials in connection with congratulation of the faithful of the Armenian Church on the Feast of the Nativity. The Head of the Diocese addressed the audience and underlined the commitment of the Armenians living in Georgia to this country and state, emphasizing the service of Armenian soldier in the Georgian army, devotion of Armenian policeman enforcing the law and order in the country. His Grace stressed that the Armenian is an integral part of Georgian society and doesn’t belong to an ethnic minority. Mentioning historically-formed relations of coreligionist nations and friendship of two Churches, His Grace underlined the significance of spiritual motherland - the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the part of which the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia is, and historical Motherland Armenia to the Armenians from Diaspora around the world.

After that the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Paata Zakareishvili addressed the audience and congratulated on the occasion of the Feast the Nativity and Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He particularly noted:

- I am glad I can share a great joy with you that comes from the Feast of the Nativity and Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The ethnic, cultural and religious diversity of Georgia is our country’s greatest treasure. Our country is proud of cultural heritage created by living here representatives of different national and religious groups, and the oldest of them the Armenians and the Armenian community of Georgia is. It is our duty to preserve, protect and pass this heritage on to succeeding generations.

After the festive Divine Liturgy the country’s government officials accompanied by the Head of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan attended the Festival of Traditional Armenian Sweet Pastry – Gata at the “Hayartun” Center of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, organized by the Association of Armenian Women in Georgia “Shushanik” (Chairperson Susanna Khachaturian).

The guest proposed a toast to the centuries-old friendship between the two nations, wishing the audience a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Anna Poghosova, Ani Ghushchyan and Genrikh Petrosyan performed cheerful songs during the festival.

Cheerful songs, dances and sweet pastry created a festive Christmas mood.

On the occasion of the Feast of the Holy Nativity and Theophany of our Lord Jesus Christ the festive Immortal and Divine Liturgy was celebrated at all operating churches of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia. Under the leadership of the Vicar-General of Javakhk Supreme Archimandrite Babken Salbiyan the festive Divine Liturgy and the ceremony of the Jurorhnek, or the "Blessing of Water" were held at Surb Khach Church in Akhalkalaki.

The festive day at Surb Prkich Church also started with the Divine Liturgy. Spiritual shepherd of Armenians in Adjara, Guria and Imereti Priest Ararat Gumbalyan conducted the divine service. The Chairman of the Adjara Autonomous Republic Government Archil Khabadze, the Mayor of Batumi Jemal Ananidze attended the festive Liturgy. High-ranking officials congratulated the Armenians of Adjara on occasion of this wonderful holiday and wished them best of luck. Priest Ararat Gumbalyan on behalf of Armenians expressed his gratitude to the Mayor and the Chairman for the congratulations and good wishes.

On January 6, the Feast of the Holy Nativity and Theophany of our Lord Jesus Christ was properly celebrated and the festive Immortal Divine Liturgy was held at all operating churches of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia.
