Let’s help high school students of village schools |
At the initiative of “Shen” nonprofit organization (Chairman Michael Avakyan) and with the support of Jinishian Foundation, in 2013 the project under the slogan “Let’s help high school students of village schools” was implemented for the youth of Armenian-inhabited villages of Tsalka region. The aim of the project was to teach handicrafts to the young people, give them the opportunity to find a job and earn money in the future. Two teachers from Tsalka region – Varsenik Babertsyan (felt work) and Anzhela Gevorgyan (pottery) preliminary underwent in Tbilisi three months of training and returned to the region with a mission to impart their knowledge to young people. Under the guidance of the Head of “Shen” organization, Michael Avakyan, and project manager Oksana Sharoyan, every Saturday and Sunday on a specially designed vehicle students from Daragyugh, Ozni, Nardevan, Gush, Akhtala and other villages of Tsalka gathered in Public School of Kzlkilis village, to master the skills and gain knowledge on pottery and felt work. Each group studied for one month and a half and consisted of 7-10 people. The project lasted for one year. On 27 January, at the “Hayartun” Center of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia solemn closing ceremony of the project took place. The Calouste Gulbenkian Hall hosted an exhibition and sale of works of 60 high school students, graduates of the training. The works of Ani Mehrabyan, Anushik Sargsyan, Narek Ter-Balyan and others aroused interest in the public. The youth from Tsalka received presents from International Organization Samaritan's Purse in Georgia. The presentation ended with the traditional Armenian round dance. Young people from Tsalka region went sightseeing in Tbilisi. The project under the slogan “Let’s help high school students of village schools” will continue.
