On November 16, 2014 the International Day of Tolerance was solemnly celebrated at Europe Square in Tbilisi. On November 16, 2014 the International Day of Tolerance was solemnly celebrated at Europe Square in Tbilisi. The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili, the Minister of State Paata Zaqareishvili, Mayor Davit Narmania, the President of Tbilisi City Assembly Giorgi Alibegashvili, other high ranking leaders honoured the event with their presence. The group of spiritual and secular representatives of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, headed by the Rev. Fr. of Tbilisi St. Gevorg Cathedral Priest Narek Ghushchyan, as well as representatives of different religious communities, representatives of different nations in Tbilisi attended the event. In his congratulation speech Irakli Gharibashvili called tolerance the national value which never took too much effort to establish, as it historically existed. The Prime Minister underlined the necessity to establish a dialogue between the traditions and different cultures existing in Georgia. The respect towards minorities has always been proper to Georgia. The Prime Minister highlighted the fact that the Armenian Apostolic Church, Jewish Synagogue, Muslim Mosque, and the Georgian Orthodox Church had been standing side by side in a small district. The Prime Minister also announced about his initiative to name the park in the “Europe Square” “Park of Tolerance”. All the Speakers of the event definitely valued the Prime Minister’s initiative. It was decided to name the park in the Europe Square, where the event was taking place, “Park of Tolerance”.
