In Memory of Armenian Intelligentsia |
On April 10, 2015 the Hayartun Center , in cooperation with the Union of Armenian Intellectuals of Georgia, initiated a literary and musical evening called “In Memory of the Great”, which was dedicated to the Armenian intelligentsia, massacred during the Genocide. The Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RA to Georgia, Mr. Yuri Vardanyan, poet and translator Givi Shahnazar, the head of the Tolerance Center of the Public Defender office, Bella Osipova were among the guests. The Vice Chairman of the Union of Armenian Intellectuals of Georgia, Naira Markosyan spoke about the life and agony of Komitas, whose mental health deteriorated because of witnessing the brutalities of the Janissaries. She also referred to the monstrous program initiated by the government of the Ottoman Empire intended to violently exterminate Armenian spiritual leaders, politicians, writers and other outstanding public figures like Krikor Zohrap, Daniel Varoujan, Ruben Sevak and Siamanto. The chairman of the Union of Armenian Intellectuals of Georgia, Yenok Tadevosyan spoke about the life of Komitas after the Genocide and highly appreciated the patriotic activity of the Soviet-Union highly ranked politicians of Armenian origin, who recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide. “The commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is at the center of 10 million Armenians’ attention”, said the ambassador. He thanked the regional committee of the State Commission on Coordination of Events for Commemoration of 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Among the performers at the event were singer Tsovinar Simonyan-Lokmazgyozyan, violinists Natia Chalashvili and Marianna Kirakozova, pianist Irina Platonova, Tbilisi Saint Etchmiadzin Church choir (choirmaster Svetlana Tatoeva), solo performers Henrikh Petrosyan and Nina Karapetyan, duduk player Vano Mkrtchyan and students from the Hayartun center duduk class. Samvel Elbakyan performed an episode from the play “Villejuif Hospital Patient” by Valery Hunanyants. Levon Chidilyan read a quote from “The Unsilenceable Belfry” poem by Paruyr Sevak and famous pianist Anri Merabov perfumed "Noktyurn" by Arno Bababjanyan. |
