A Century-Old Wound… A Century-Old Struggle |
On April 28, 2015, Batumi Saint Savior Church clergy and teaching staff organized a play dedicated to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide entitled “A Century-Old Wound… A Century-Old Struggle” in Batumi city’s Summer Theatre. The students from various Sunday and Saturday schools, the “Aghbyur” Choir, the “Heghnar” Dance Ensemble, and a local art club and youth group presented episodes from Komitas's life, with scenes depicting his inner world and pain through songs and dramatic re-enactments. Father Ter-Ararat Gumbalyan from the Saint Savior Church welcomed the participants and the audience. He thanked the teachers and students for their hard work. The RA Consul General in Adjara, Guria and Imereti, Mr. Aram Grigoryan, also gave a welcoming speech and noted that, “Our nation remained strong. Despite all disasters Armenians continue to strengthen their state and army and have powerful diaspora; this play represents a part of it all.” |
