Report and Election Meeting of the Union of Armenian Painters in Georgia PDF Print E-mail

On June 17, 2016, a report and election meeting of the Union of Armenian Painters of Georgia was held in the Calouste Gulbenkian Hall of the Hayartun Center at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. All the members of the Union were participating in the meeting.

The Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan offered his good wishes and blessing remarks to the participants. Referring to the activities of the Union in the last five years, the Primate highlighted the spirit of unity that has reigned among the Armenian artists of the union led by the President, Meruzhan Shahumyan, he praised the works undertaken by the union aimed at the development of Armenian art outside Armenia, consolidation of Armenian artists in Georgia, the preservation and continuation of the Tbilisi art school’s traditions.

The Bishop extended words of appreciation to the teacher and artist Robert Nersesov for his devoted patriotic work to develop love for different art styles in the younger generation, to guide young people in the realm of art.

President Meruzhan Shahumyan briefed on the activities of the union in the past five years, he noted that since the opening of the Hayartun Center 41 exhibitions had been organized in the Calouste Gulbenkian Hall, with the participation of Armenian, Georgian and foreign artists of different ages. Different topics were chosen for personal and group exhibitions, with participation of artists from different regions. The speaker referred to the exhibitions of artists from Javakheti, Gyumri and Etchmiadzin organized in Tbilisi, as well as the exhibition of Georgian and Armenian artists from Georgia held in Gyumri, Javakheti, Etchmiadzin, highlighted the display of works of Armenian artists from Georgia in Yerevan, the Armenian President had attended the exhibition.

Meruzhan Shahumyan had requested to release him from his duties of President, thus the participants discussed Irena Ohanjanova’s and Tengiz Mikoyants’s candidacy for the position of the President.

Irena Ohanjanova was elected as the President of the Union of Armenian Painters of Georgia based on election results, 18 voted for, 1 voted against and 1 abstained.

Levon Osipov and Gary Mirzoyan congratulated Irena Ohanjanova on her appointment and wished her productive work.

Current issues were discussed during the meeting.
