Ecumenical prayer is organized for nearly three decades in Georgia and it is raised to the Almighty God by four Christian churches and faithful. They are the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia, Catholic Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Evangelical Baptist Church in Georgia. The joint prayer is held every year under the presidency of one of the four churches. This year the joint prayer was organized by the Catholic Church in Georgia, which also chairs the Inter-church Council in Georgia.
On January 25, 2019, Ecumenical Prayer was raised to God in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin, in Tbilisi.
In attendance for the Ecumenical Prayer were the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan; the leader of Apostolic Department of Caucasian Latin Catholics His Grace Bishop Giuseppe Pasotto; the Head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Marcus Shokh; the Head of the Evangelical Baptist Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Merab Gaprindashvili as well as clergymen of various churches, many faithful.
The Ecumenical Prayer was attended by the delegation of the Christian Women's Ecumenical Forum of Armenia, led by Marianna Apresyan, co-chair of the Ecumenical Forum of European Christian Women.
The clergy, faithful and the Choir of the Saint Etchmiadzin church of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, together with other churches, took part in the prayer.
The Primate of the Catholic Church highlighted in his speech the importance of gathering together around the faith and asking God's mercy, emphasized national and religious diversity, being a son of the Father God, and brotherhood of people. He also highlighted the importance of the religious reforms and similar meetings.
The breath and warmth of joining human beings souls and support for each other were combined in the Ecumenical Prayer. "It is important for us to give a hope to the world that we can be different, pray in different languages, but we can be together".
On behalf of the Christian Women's Ecumenical Forum of Armenia and Ecumenical Forum of European Christian Women, Marianna Apresyan greeted the organizers and participants of the joint prayer and took part in the prayer by reading psalm of Asaph.
The Ecumenical Prayer was concluded with the Protector Prayer read by the Primates in their native languages and offering their blessings to the faithful.
On the following day, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan received the members of the Christian Ecumenical Forum from Armenia. The women officials of the Armenian Diocese were present at the meeting. The members of the Armenian Christian Women’s Forum thoroughly presented the purpose and directions of activity of the Christian Women's Ecumenical Forum of Armenia (member of the Ecumenical Forum of European Christian Women) which operates already five years. The vision of the formation of such an organization in Georgia, with the support from the Armenian Diocese in Georgia was also discussed. The proposal was adopted with a clear understanding of the fact that due to united efforts of women representing various religious communities, it is possible to cooperate in new spheres.
