The “Hayartun” Center of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia hosted one more holiday event. On December 26 St. Nerses Shorhali Youth Choir of the “Hayartun” Center gave a concert.

St.Nerses Shnorhali Youth Choir was formed along with the “Hayartun” Center opening. Under the expert guidance of outstanding choirmaster Maria Abulyan and to the accompaniment of piano-player Karen Mirzoyan, boys and girls from ages 8 to 15 years study our classical and folk songs, master the performing art and skillfully present Armenian choral music on different stages, both in Tbilisi and in Armenia.

Just two months ago the members of St. Nerses Shnorhali Youth Choir successfully participated in “Komitas Vardapet” Festival that took place in Yerevan, and were afforded the honor to sing at festival gala concert together with the combined choir, under the guidance of world-famous conductor Hovhannes Chekijyan. The concert was their New Year gift to the audience.

The clergy of the Diocese, the members of the Board of Trustees, the officials of the “Hayartun” Center, teachers, parents and guests attended the concert.

St. Nerses Shnorhali Senior Choir under the guidance of young musician Hovhannes Hambardzumyan welcomed and inspired the children by the wonderful performance of “Nazani” by Komitas.

After that the compositions by Komitas, Sayat-Nova, Robert Amirkhanyan, Revaz Laghidze and others, as well as different folk songs followed one another. Wonderful performance of choir members and individual performers Giorgi Marlyan and Eduard Ghushchyan was a remarkable testimony of performing art of the talented choir. Responsible for the cultural department of the Diocese Levon Chidilyan made comments during the concert recalling the past, performances and success of St. Nerses Shnorhali Youth Choir.

At the end of the concert the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan sent his blessing to the audience. The Head of the Diocese gave his assessment and stressed the role of culture and art in preservation of national identity, and underlined the necessity to master the Armenian classical and folk songs along with the compositions of famous composers. “A man is brought up with these songs, is shaped as a committed Christian and a true son of the Armenian nation,”- His Grace concluded.
