The 40th day after Jimmy Torosyan’s death was marked at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia |
February 16 marked the 40th day after Jimmy Torosyan’s death, the Honored Architect of the Republic of Armenia, Academician, who has occupied an undiminished place in the international architectural arena. The Union of Armenian Intellectuals of Georgia, with the support of the “Hayartun” Center at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia and at the initiative of the Union of Architects of Georgia, organized memorial evening to mark the day, when the soul of great scientist left the earth. The event started in Surb Etchmiadzin Church of Tbilisi, where under the leadership of the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan the requiem service for a builder and an architect was conducted. The former Chief Architect of Tbilisi, laureate of state prizes of Georgia and the USSR, Gigi Batiashvili, Honored Architect of Georgia, a member of International Academy of Architecture, Tamaz Tevzadze, a member of International Academy of Architecture, Vakhtang Davitaia. Dean of the Faculty of Architecture of the Georgian Technical University, Gocha Mikiashvili, the former Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Armenia Tamaz Gachechiladze, Deputy Ambassador of RA to Georgia Levon Torgomyan, the Armenian and Georgian intellectuals, businessmen, appreciators of Armenian-Georgia Chairman of the Union of Armenian Intellectuals of Georgia Yenok Tadevosyan opened the event. He presented the life and career of the great architect, his extensive building work, who has passed away just 40 days ago, but through his boundless building talent left an indelible mark on many cities, and, perhaps, gave the most dazzling charm and beauty to the capital and spiritual center of his motherland. Everyone, who delivered a speech, one by one, by means of slides presented introductions, magnificent structures, cascade, … etc., created by scientist in the years of work, they commented on those wonders made out of brick and stone, which became a worthy continuation of great architect Tamanyan’s work and his plan of Yerevan. Georgian colleagues with special love shared their memories of the great scientist, spoke with admiration of his constructions, the contemporaries of creation and chiseling of which they were. Georgian colleagues with reverence and undisguised pain of loss highly appreciated Jimmy Torosyan’s professional competence. Charming performance of Karen Mirzoyan, Yesai Abovyan and Ivane Mkrtchyan decorated the event. It became one more manifestation of Armenian-Georgia
