The Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia paid tribute to victims of April 9 tragedy |
On April 9, in Avlabari district of Tbilisi, near Surb Etchmiadzin Church, on behalf of the clergy, the officials and faithful of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, flowers in memory of April 9, 1989 Tbilisi Massacre victims were laid at the Khachkar (cross-stone), erected by the Armenian people. The Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan and the clergy conducted the requiem service in memory of peaceful demonstrators, who died for the independence of Georgia. At the end of the ceremony the Head of the Diocese underlined the Armenian-Georgian centuries-old friendship and good will of two Christian nations to share their sorrows and joys. After that the representatives of the Diocese and the “Hayartun” Center visited the place of tragedy that took place 25 years ago, and on behalf of the Diocese laid wreath on the April 9 memorial in front of the Georgian parliament at Rustaveli Avenue. |
