The first session of “The Committee, investigating questions related to financial and property issues of religious communities” took place on October 20, 2014. The committee is functioning at the State Agency of Religious Affairs. The Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan and the director of the Department of legal issues and cooperation Levon Isakhanyan were attending the session. The committee discussed 11 questions with the direct participation of the representatives of religious communities.
The application of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, which referred to building a cultural center at Batumi “St. Savior” church, was discussed together with the applications of other religious communities attending the session.

The committee mentioned that it was necessary to make some clarifications in the process of assigning the not-farming site on Jordania Street in Batumi to the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. The committee offered to check with Batumi authorities the exact location of the church and the neighboring buildings, as well as the red lines. As per the arrangement acquired, the Armenian Diocese in Georgia should submit the necessary documents to the Agency within a month.

According to the announcement of the Head of the State Agency of Religious Affairs Zaza Vashkhamadze, it is the first case that they have been considering the applications of religious communities and making a decision with the direct participation of the members of the interested religious communities.
