Armenian Diocese Leader Participates in the Meeting of Religious Communities with Georgian Prime Minister |
On December 24, 2014, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili met with the representatives of four religious communities of Georgia: Armenian Apostolic, Catholic, Muslim and Jewish Diocese leaders. Armenian Diocese in Georgia was represented by its leader, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan. Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili welcomed all and pointed out that the government decree on granting partial compensations for damages suffered by four religious communities during the Soviet Union period has been issued. The head of the government inquired about the funding process of religious communities. According to State Religious Affairs Agency President Zaza Vashakmadze’s brief report, the state has executed agreements with all four religious communities, and relevant sums are allotted and transferred to their bank accounts. His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan welcomed Prime Minister on behalf of Armenian believers and expressed his appreciation to Georgian government for its attentive attitude towards recent concerns of the religious communities, including the Armenian Diocese. His Grace drew Prime Minister’s attention to the restitution issue of Armenian churches functioning before the Sovietization of Georgia, according to the complete list presented to the government by the primacy. Also, the leader of the Diocese raised other concerns of the Armenian community and believers. His Grace Bishop Vazgen congratulated Prime Minister Gharibashvili on coming Christmas and New Year and invited him to participate in the ceremony of Christmas celebration and consecration of water on January 6.
