On July 13-15, 2015, the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia jointly with the National Institute of Education organized a pan-Armenian scientific and practical conference on "The Modern problems of organizing Armenian Education in Diaspora" topic within the framework of the “Training of teachers from Diaspora in Armenia for a month" project.

The participants of the conference were the teachers from Diaspora, representatives of the sphere of education, scholars studying education in Diaspora issues from Lebanon, Syria, Ukraine, Turkey and Belarus.

Eugenia Markosyan, the Director of the Educational Department, Roza Zohrabyan, the “Surb Yeghia the Prophet” Sunday Armenian School teacher and Karine Manukyan, the National Project Coordinator at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, were representing the Armenian Diocese in Georgia at the conference.

Eugenia Markosyan presented the report on “The role of the Hayartun Center in Tbilisi in organizing the national education for Armenians in Georgia”, mentioning the implemented and future projects of the Diocese and the Hayartun Center aimed at preserving and developing the education in Armenian. She also refered to the activities of the one-day schools the “Surb Grigor Narekatsi” and “Surb Yeghia the Prophet”, the Hayartun Center and its artistic classes, which intend to develop the Armenian culture. The report contained photo and video materials.

Of particular interest to the participants of the conference was the introduction by the Diocese of the “History of the Armenian Nation” as an optional subject in Georgia’s Armenian schools. The report was appreciated highly by the participants.

At the conference the Yerevan State University presented its main educational and scientific projects implemented within the framework of cooperation with Diaspora.

The participants also addressed to the problems of the Armenian schools in Diaspora, the impact of psychological and philosophical factors of the genocide on the Armenian identity, as well as the teaching of the Armenian language through games for non-Armenian speaking groups and other issues. The participants of the conference visited the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and met with His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
